Week 43 words from @phoenixtextiles: thread, stitch, fabric, dye and art.
I dye my cloth with the colours of sunrise
clouds dancing purple pink tangos
in the early morning quiet
I gather glistening strands
and thread my needle
with the golden light of dawn
with my poet's art
I stitch together the fabric of the day
crisp air dancing across my face
nectar swirling on my tongue
currawong calling in my ear
as I bend light to joy

Here are the words and my poem for the forty-third week of the 2019 Poetry Challenge.
It was fun to play with words for making and creating this week. Especially as the words were all related to the fibre arts of dyeing and sewing – two crafts very dear to my heart as you already know. The timing was perfect as I've just had a triumphant return to eco-dyeing in the last few weeks.
I've been thinking of writing a poem about sewing for a while now. The idea's been lurking around in the back of my brain waiting for the right moment. All it needed was this prompt and wonderful words from @phoenixtextiles. Thank you!
If you want to join the 2019 Poetry Challenge, head on over to my Instagram account (@indraniperera) where I post the words for the week on Mondays (mostly) in my story. Write a poem and post it. Be sure to tag me and use the hashtags #2019poetrychallenge and #livepoetsclub.
If you don't want to write a poem, you can still be part of the 2019 Poetry Challenge. Send me five random words and I'll use them in a poem. Either DM me on Instagram with the words or send me an email (indrani at indraniperera dot com).
Happy writing!
