Week 7 words from @claire.kirkup: pegs, save, prodigal, shaving and motel.
she pegs shadows
on broken heartstrings
in the spaces between the trees
save the best for last
her mother always told her
so she folds it deep
beneath her prodigal heart
shaving regret from the tomb
of broken memories
like peeling back
the layers of an onion
she checks into the motel
of wayward ideas
and independent oddfellows
home at last

Here are the words and my poem for the seventh week of the 2019 Poetry Challenge.
This week's words were tough. When I first read them, they seemed like a story in themselves, however, I struggled to turn them into a poem. This is my fourth attempt. I'm getting there. I'm not entirely happy with it yet but I thought I'd better post something for week seven before week eight was over!
If you want to join the 2019 Poetry Challenge, head on over to my Instagram account where I post the words for the week on Mondays in my story. Be sure to tag me and use the hashtags #2019poetrychallenge and #livepoetsclub.
If you don't want to write a poem, you can still be part of the 2019 Poetry Challenge. Send me five random words and I'll use them in a poem. Either DM me on Instagram with the words or send me an email (indrani at indraniperera dot com).
Happy writing!
